Our first day on the Isle of Skye. We are glad that our tent survived the night even though it didn’t look like it will. The weather is not very beautiful. Because of our time and transport limitation, we have to choose what to visit from all of the beauty that this island offers. We are deciding to buy one day ticket and go to see the Portree that is a super-beautiful little seaport and on the way to Durham Castle.

Skye path to nowhere

The weather is changing every minute as usual. We are arriving at Durham Castle where we are finding out that the entrance costs 9 pounds so we are rather going for a coffee to the nearby cafe. After a little coffee stop, we are going for a walk to see if we can’t see the castle at least from the distance. Unfortunately, it is surrounded by a huge garden where you have to pay an entrance fee as well so it is without a chance. After a while, we are noticing little gate protecting the path in the forest. Stepan is confirming in his tourist map he downloaded that there is actually something. So we are going to explore it. We are going through a beautiful forest that reminds us of a typical Czech forest which is not very typical here.

Skye walk through the bush

We do not have much time to just wander around because the last bus to Portree is leaving very soon so we are turning around and going back to the bus stop. The bus is here and we are continuing to home – Sligachan.

All of our electronic devices are dead and we are hungry + because of yesterday we know that in the pub there is live music night soooo we need to go there soon and take our seats right? Our saved 9 pounds are being used for a hamburger which is very popular in this pub.

Around 9 PM the musicians are taking their instruments and the Scottish band starts to play. The whole pub is being turned into a huge dance floor engaging everyone in the pub.
All the local people have gathered together here and they are celebrating as a real Scots. The end of the day is just brilliant and we can happily go to sleep. The sky is so clear that we can see millions of stars shining on our way to camp. Before we get to our tent we are just standing there, admiring the beauty of the moment that will probably not be repeated again due to the weather forecast.
